AIESEC, the world’s largest student-run volunteer network, had its chapter at LUMS conduct a ‘berry-picking retreat’ at NYAHB Farms on the outskirts of Lahore. NYAHB Farms is a progressive farm that deals in a multitude of different produce and crops.

Both organizations penned a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that allows volunteer exchanges to occur in the pursuit of promoting sustainable agri-tourism in an urban setting like Lahore’s, which has seen a vast amount of agricultural land been used for commercial and residential development in recent years. The farm also became an official venue partner for AIESEC in LUMS.

NYAHB Farm’s blackberry season finally culminated on the day of the blackberry picking, around which time LUMS’ students are busy with their final examinations of the semester. A sizeable fraction of the expected headcount from AIESEC in LUMS attended the event, with others absent due to university classes having been called off due to the prevailing security situation in Pakistan due to cross-border tensions, with students based out of other cities having to return to their respective hometowns as a result.

The event was the farm’s first corporate event, and the students had a lot to learn about sustainable farming practices in accordance with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Speaking from AIESEC at the conclusion of the event were Manahil Imran, Regional Membership Product Head, and Mustafa Hussain, Member at AIESEC LUMS. Manahil said the following: “It’s so good that AIESEC has finally partnered with a farm in Lahore to showcase it’s sustainability while giving the students a chance to unwind and engage in healthy activities. We’re glad to have NYAHB Farms as an official venue partner”. Mustafa added: “The overarching brand that the proprietor represents has been involved with AIESEC for a year now and we thoroughly enjoy hearing more positive stories from entrepreneurs in Pakistan and hope to continue this relationship”.

Other brands represented at the event were sports tourism startup Athscape, specialty product distributor FreshStart, and niche handicraft artist The Enchanted Tassel.
